Keep your beautiful new smile in place with comfortable, custom-fit retainers, from a family-owned team that’s here for the long haul.
Finished braces? Lost your retainer? Worried your teeth are shifting? You’re not alone.
We hear this from patients across the North Country all the time:
The good news? Whatever the situation, getting back on track is usually simpler than you’d think.
At Plattsburgh & Potsdam Orthodontics, we make retainer care easy, and we welcome anyone who wants to protect their smile, whether you had your braces with us or somewhere else.
A retainer is the simplest, most reliable way to make sure your orthodontic results last. After braces or aligners, the bone and ligaments around your teeth need time to stabilize in their new positions, and a retainer holds everything steady while that happens.
A few things a good retainer does:
At your free first visit, Dr. Agnetta will walk you through the best retainer option for your smile, and how to keep it (and your teeth) healthy for the long term.
The right retainer depends on your smile, your habits, and your comfort. We offer two main options, and we’ll help you choose the one that fits best:
Not sure which is right for you? Dr. Agnetta will help you decide at your free first visit, based on your smile, your lifestyle, and what feels most comfortable.
Getting a new retainer is quick, comfortable, and easier than most people expect. Here’s how it usually goes:
The whole process takes a couple of short visits, and you’ll leave with a retainer designed to keep your smile in place for years to come.
It happens, retainers get lost in restaurant napkins, sat on, chewed by the dog, or just plain wear out. The good news? Getting a replacement is fast, easy, and friendly.
You don’t need to have been treated by us, we’re happy to help anyone protect their smile, no matter where you had your braces or how long ago.
A little care goes a long way, and the better you treat your retainer, the longer it’ll keep your smile in place.

Most patients wear their retainer full-time for the first few months, then transition to nighttime wear long-term. To keep your smile in place forever, plan on wearing your retainer at night for life. It’s a small habit that protects all the work you put into your smile.
Your teeth can slowly drift back toward where they started, sometimes within just a few months of skipping retainer wear. The longer you go without it, the more your smile may shift. The good news is that getting back on track is usually as simple as restarting nighttime wear (or getting a new retainer if yours no longer fits).
The cost depends on the type of retainer and your specific needs. We accept most insurance, offer in-house financing, and welcome HSA & FSA. We’re happy to help anyone protect their smile, even if you didn’t have your braces with us. Give us a call or come in for a free first visit to get a clear number.
Almost never. Most of the time, all you need is a quick scan and a new retainer. If your teeth have shifted significantly, we may need to discuss options, but in most cases, a replacement retainer is all it takes to get your smile back on track.
With good care, most retainers last several years. Clear retainers typically need replacement every 1–3 years, while Hawley retainers can last 5–10 years or longer if well cared for. We’ll let you know when it’s time for a new one.
We’d love to meet your family. Whether you’re just starting to explore your options or ready to take the next step, we’re here to help, with friendly answers, honest guidance, and zero pressure.
Your first visit is always free.
