- “I want something that actually works, what’s the most reliable braces option?”
- “My child needs braces, but I want something durable and affordable.”
- “My case is complicated, will metal braces handle it?”
Here’s the truth: metal braces are still the most trusted, time-tested orthodontic treatment in the world, and modern versions are smaller, smoother, and more comfortable than the braces you may remember. They can handle nearly any case, simple or complex, and they’re often the most affordable braces option, too.

Comfortable & Effective Orthodontic Treatment
We’ve designed every step of your braces journey to feel calm, friendly, and as low-stress as possible. Here’s what to expect:
- Step 1: A free first visit. Dr. Agnetta takes a friendly look at your smile, takes digital scans and photos, and walks you through your options in plain language.
- Step 2: Placement appointment. The brackets are gently bonded to your teeth and the wire is threaded through. This usually takes about an hour, and there’s no pain, just some mild pressure.
- Step 3: Adjustment visits. Every 4 to 6 weeks, you’ll come in for a short check-up. We’ll adjust the wire and let you pick a new color for your elastics if you’d like.
- Step 4: A few days of getting used to it. Some mild soreness is normal for the first few days; over-the-counter pain relief and soft foods help.
- Step 5: Watching your smile take shape. Treatment length varies based on your specific needs, but most patients are in metal braces for 12 to 24 months.
Throughout it all, you’ll have a friendly team that’s just a phone call away, happy to answer questions and squeeze you in for quick fixes if anything feels off.

Common Questions About Metal Braces
How long do I need to wear metal braces?
Most patients wear metal braces for 12 to 24 months, though treatment length depends on your specific smile and how much movement is needed. At your free first visit, Dr. Agnetta will give you a personalized estimate based on what your smile needs.
How much do metal braces cost?
Metal braces are typically one of the most affordable orthodontic treatment options. The exact cost depends on your specific needs and how long treatment will take. We accept most insurance, offer in-house financing, welcome HSA and FSA, and provide a family discount when more than one family member is in treatment. Your first consultation is always free; we’ll walk you through pricing in plain language with no pressure.
Do metal braces hurt?
Getting braces placed doesn’t hurt, you’ll feel some pressure, but no pain. After each adjustment, you may feel some mild soreness for a day or two, similar to feeling sore after a workout. Most patients adjust quickly, especially with soft foods and over-the-counter pain relief for the first few days.
How are metal braces different from clear aligners?
Metal braces are fixed to your teeth and work continuously, while clear aligners (Angel Aligners) are removable plastic trays. Metal braces work well for complex cases and don’t require the discipline of wearing aligners 22 hours a day, but clear aligners are nearly invisible and removable for eating. We’ll help you decide which is right for you at your free first visit.
Can I play sports with metal braces?
Yes, but we strongly recommend wearing a mouthguard during contact sports to protect your braces and your mouth. We can recommend a comfortable orthodontic mouthguard at your visit
What foods do I need to avoid with metal braces?
Avoid sticky candies, gum, hard nuts, popcorn, ice, hard crusty bread, and crunchy raw vegetables. Cut firmer foods like apples and carrots into smaller bite-sized pieces. Most foods are still on the menu — you just have to think before you bite!
